Quick answer

ChatGPT Plus costs $20 a month, Pro $100 or $200, and Business $20 per seat on annual billing or $25 monthly, with a 2-seat minimum. A 50-person team pays $12,000 a year on Business Standard at list price. Enterprise is quote-based.

Key takeaways

  • Cheapest paid option: Go at $8 a month; Plus is $20.
  • Most companies need Business at $20 per seat annually, for SSO and data controls.
  • Biggest hidden cost: Premium seats at $100 a month for power users, plus separate API billing.
  • Best way to save: fold expensed Plus plans into Business and commit annually.

ChatGPT pricing now has six rungs, from a free tier with ads to Pro at $200 a month and quote-based Enterprise. For companies, the real decision is between people expensing individual plans and a managed Business workspace.

ChatGPT Business needs at least 2 seats and costs $20 per Standard seat per month on annual billing or $25 monthly. Premium seats, with 5x the usage and no 5-hour limit, cost $100 annually or $125 monthly, and a workspace can mix both. Seats are paid capacity, separate from the members assigned to them, and teams can buy workspace credits for usage beyond included limits. API usage is not included and is billed separately. Enterprise is sold on annual contracts through sales.

  • Premium seats for power users. Heavy users who hit Standard limits need Premium seats at $100 a month annually, five times the Standard price.
  • Workspace credits. Usage beyond included limits is bought as workspace credits on top of seat fees.
  • API is a separate bill. Business does not include API usage; developer and automation work is invoiced separately.
  • Shadow Plus subscriptions. Individual $20 Plus plans on expense reports sit outside the company workspace and its controls.
  • Idle seats. Seats are capacity you pay for whether or not anyone is assigned to them.

Which ChatGPT plan should you choose?

  • Plus. Choose if one person needs advanced models and deep research for $20 a month.
  • Pro. Choose if one person consistently hits Plus limits or runs heavy Codex and research work.
  • Business. Choose if two or more people need SSO, an admin console and business data kept out of training.
  • Enterprise. Choose if you need SCIM, data residency, invoicing or a negotiated contract.

Is ChatGPT worth the price?

ChatGPT Business is reasonable value at $20 a seat for teams that want sanctioned AI with SSO, and it is cheaper than paying for scattered Plus plans. The bill climbs when power users need Premium seats and when API work is added separately.

You are likely overpaying if: Staff expense their own Plus plans alongside a Business workspace, you pay for Premium seats that light users do not need, or seats sit unassigned.

How to pay less for ChatGPT

  1. Consolidate expensed Plus plans. Move individual Plus subscriptions into one Business workspace with SSO and central billing.
  2. Commit annually. Business Standard drops from $25 to $20 per seat, a 20% saving.
  3. Mix Standard and Premium seats. Give Premium only to the few people who hit limits; everyone else stays on Standard.
  4. Reclaim idle seats. Review seat assignments monthly, since seats are billed as capacity.
  5. Nonprofit discount. OpenAI lists up to 75% off Business or Enterprise for eligible nonprofits.
  6. Price the alternatives. Claude Team and Google AI plans offer similar seat pricing, and Microsoft 365 Copilot may already be in scope.

The bigger picture: why ChatGPT bills drift

ChatGPT spend usually starts on expense reports: a Plus plan here, a Pro plan there. Then IT sets up Business, but the individual plans never get cancelled, API usage shows up on a different card, and nobody owns the full picture.
